On the surface of Kalevala, Mandalorian Space, 450 BBY
Rhenn Lok sat in the cockpit of the Warlock Runner — his YT-700, an old but trusty starship. As he flipped the Runner’s various switches, each with a satisfying click, he took a moment to remove his helmet and breathe.
Renn preferred moments like this — normally he couldn’t remove any of his armor because of his oath to the Guild of Mando’a. The bounty hunter’s guild held the ancient Mandalorian ways very closely — one of it’s rules being that you will never remove your armor in front of any other living being. It made it pretty hard to eat at cantinas.
Rhenn finished his ship’s startup sequence and engaged the sublight drives. The Warlock Runner rattled somewhere as it fought the atmosphere of Kalevala and pulled its way up to the stars. I need to get that inertia dampener fixed soon, Rhenn thought to himself as he began plotting the hyperspace jump to the Hebekrr system.
The jump would take only a few hours, and Rhenn planned on spending those hours prepping his gear for what was to come. He had just accepted a new contract from the Guild — he was to bring a known criminal into Republic custody.
Apparently the target, Varnis Krelth had been flagged for smuggling unstable Heb Crystals into Republic space. Heb crystals were one of Hebekrr Major’s main exports to the Republic, but they required a specific stabilization process.
Racers across the galaxy are always trying to get their hands on unstable Heb Crystals — they’re an amazing source of power and give an unparalleled burst of speed to most engines, but they have the nasty side effect of leaving energy clouds in their wake. If a ship unknowingly flies through one of those clouds, their systems will fry.
Rhenn himself had gotten caught in one of those clouds before, and nearly ran out of oxygen before a ship had luckily caught him on their scanners.
Rhenn would be happy to get this guy into Republic custody.
He finished his hyperspace calculations with the help of his navicomputer, and pushed forward on his hyperspace controls. The ship lurched forward as the space around him turned into the familiar blue and white streaks of hyperspace.
This post compiles the character and ship creation from both ASTROPRISMA and Notorious. ASTROPRISMA has you build your own ship, which I designed after the YT-2400, with some twists to make it fit the “older” model that would be found in the High Republic setting. The Notorious character creator also has you roll for a target, the planet you’ll find the target on, and why the target has a bounty.
